November 2020: Welcome, baby Dylan

Dylan was born at St Thomas’ hospital with multiple health conditions. He was transferred to Evelina London’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for immediate specialist care.

During his time there, he enjoyed story time with his parents, Anita and Nick, and found his favourite toy in a Koala named Keith. Despite the treatment he was undergoing, and continuous investigations, Anita describes Dylan as a cheeky, animated little boy who loved being read to and getting dressed in his colourful wardrobe.

“He is the strongest warrior we know,” she says, “and we are immensely proud to call him our eldest child.”

Through every test and treatment, and during moments of hope and heartbreak, Dylan’s parents were guided and cared for by the incredible teams at Evelina London.

“Our baby was surrounded by extraordinary care and love and given the opportunity to keep fighting. Every team who looked after him, and us, did so with deep compassion. In the hardest time of our lives, Nick and I felt completely held by kindness.”

Continuing Dylan’s legacy

Dylan spent 37 days in NICU before he passed away in Anita’s arms. That moment changed his parents’ lives forever. As Dylan’s parents, Anita and Nick carry Dylan with them in everything they do, honouring his life and legacy each day alongside his little sister and brother.

In his name, they founded Dylan’s Pals and have since become lifelong supporters and dedicated fundraisers for Evelina London Children’s Charity.

Anita shares, “Nick and I were determined that Dylan’s legacy would be so much more than the 37 days he spent with us. 37 short days filled with an infinite amount of heartbreak and pain, but also a profound amount of hope that Dylan would come home with us.”

In the six years since Dylan’s birth, Anita and Nick have raised over £80,000 through Dylan’s Pals, in his memory. They are proud to have supported amazing projects at Evelina London such as the refurbishment of the neonatal unit and the funding of revolutionary neonatal medicine to help children like Dylan.

Marking Dylan’s sixth birthday

To celebrate his sixth birthday in 2026, Anita laced up her trainers to run the London Marathon in his memory.

“We miss him every day, and we have made it our life’s mission to ensure that his light gives other vulnerable babies the chance to go home with their families.”
