Have you seen one of our fundraisers?

Frequently asked questions

Where are our fundraisers working?

Our fundraisers will be knocking on doors  across London and greater London area from April through to March 2027. Click the button below to view the list of postcodes.

We aim to keep this information accurate, however there may occasionally be times when a fundraiser crosses into a neighbouring street or postcode by mistake.

Our fundraisers will also be based onsite at Evelina London and St Thomas’ hospitals from the 1st April 2026.

How do I know the person I spoke to is legitimate?

Our fundraisers will be wearing charity branded clothing and will have a fundraising ID badge to show that they are legitimate fundraisers. They will also have branded Charity marketing leaflets and a pull-up banner to identify themselves and to help explain why they are there.

If you would like to confirm the details of an Evelina London Children’s Charity fundraiser who you recently spoke to, please contact our friendly Supporter Care team from Monday to Friday, 9:30am – 5:30pm on 0208 106 5435 or email hello@evelinacharity.org.uk.

Is the Hospital Trust aware that there will be fundraisers onsite?

Yes, the fundraisers are authorised to operate Monday to Saturday 10am – 7:30pm.  Although there will be times (especially on Saturday) when the fundraisers finish early.

Why are they approaching me?

Our fundraisers are able to approach all individuals who appear to be over 25 years of age and begin conversations about our work. They are advised to assess the situation carefully though, and not approach anyone clearly occupied, working, sitting down or waiting in a queue. They are also not allowed to follow anyone for more than 3 steps so should not follow you any further unless you stop to speak with them. They may bring you back to their designated area to give you more information or take your details to donate. If you have any questions or have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Will fundraisers approach staff?

We have asked our fundraisers not to approach staff (identifiable by uniform/lanyards), however it is possible that they may approach you if these are not visible.

While staff are not our target audience for these campaigns, the fundraisers will be trained to answer questions by interested staff members.

What about vulnerable patients?

We are committed to treating those who are in vulnerable circumstances fairly and respectfully.  We have worked with our agency to ensure that we have robust training, policies and procedures in place to protect anyone in potentially vulnerable circumstances from inappropriate requests for donations. This will ensure supporters and members of the public are treated with empathy and respect throughout our face-to-face fundraising activities.

The fundraisers will be in areas with high footfall traffic and not on wards or where patients with complex needs are staying.  We will also tell the fundraisers not to approach anyone in a hospital gown or wearing a hospital bracelet; however, the fundraisers can engage with patients if they themselves are approached.

If a person chooses to sign-up to give a regular gift, the fundraiser will re-confirm the conversation a couple of times to ensure that the donor understands the commitment they are making to give a regular gift. These confirmations are mandatory and part of the fundraisers’ scripts that they work from.

The fundraisers will also have ‘Thanks for Listening’ cards that they will hand out to any person they feel may be vulnerable. This would allow the person to think further about making a donation to the charity. The cards include our Supporter Care team contact details, who can answer any further questions.

What happens if somebody doesn’t want to sign up now, and wants to think about it?

The fundraisers will have ‘Thanks for Listening’ cards which have information about our work, the impact it has on people’s lives and how members of the public can support the cause. It also provides details for members of the public to contact us directly should they wish to do so.

This card is given by fundraisers when a potential supporter may want to think further about donating or if the fundraiser wishes to close a conversation where it is felt that the person they are speaking to is in a vulnerable circumstance.

What are my options for donating?

Our fundraisers are only able to help you set up a regular, monthly donation by Direct Debit and should always make this clear when they are speaking with you. They cannot take a one-off donation but will signpost you to the most appropriate place to do so. You can also contact our friendly Supporter Care team from Monday to Friday, 9:30am – 5:30pm on 0208 106 5435 or email hello@evelinacharity.org.uk, to find out more information about making a one-off donation.

How will donations be used?

By donating today, the supporter will help…

  • Make Evelina London feel more like home, with wards that provide a sanctuary for families and a play space for children.
  • Invest in innovative equipment and technology that makes treatment more precise and brings comfort to children and their families – like special illuminating equipment that makes injections easier.
  • Support pioneering research which allows the expert Evelina London team to discover new ways to deliver care – like the ground-breaking 3D MRI scanner that helps diagnose heart problems in babies while they’re still in the womb.
  • Look after the everyday heroes in the Evelina London team, making sure they get the care and support they need – from comfy seats for tired feet in our ‘wellbeing zones’ to trailblazing training.

What is Gift Aid and why should I sign up for it?

Gift Aid enables the Charity to reclaim the tax on your donation (provided you are a UK taxpayer) and receive a further 25p from every £1 donated, at no extra cost to you. A gift of £10.00 per month becomes £12.50 per month with Gift Aid. All we need from you is a simple declaration saying that you want to use Gift Aid – you may have selected this on the tablet in the Direct Debit section.

How secure are donations and personal details?

Our fundraisers are not allowed to collect cash or cheques. The information contained on the tablet can only be used by Evelina London Children’s Charity to collect your agreed contribution from your account and nothing else. We comply with the Data Protection Act and will not pass your details on to any third party. You are protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee.

Are the local authorities informed that Evelina London Children’s Charity is fundraising in the area?

Yes. In London, door-to-door fundraising is licensed by the Charities Licensing Unit of the Metropolitan Police. A house-to-house collection license must be obtained from this Unit before door-to-door fundraising in London can commence. Local police forces in London are not notified that we are fundraising in their areas because this is instead handled centrally by the Charities Licensing Unit.

Outside of London, local authorities decide whether house-to-house collection licenses are required for door-to-door fundraising depending upon the type of collection. These licenses are obtained where so required and, in this way, the local authorities are notified. Additionally, outside of London, the corresponding police force is notified via the general enquiries line that Evelina London Children’s Charity is conducting door-to-door fundraising in their area.

What times are they allowed to visit?

The Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice states that door-knocking must stop after 9pm, regardless of the season. Our fundraisers have set 8pm as the latest time they will knock on your door, unless you’ve asked them to return after this time. If you’re concerned about the time you’ve been visited, please contact our team.

Our fundraisers operate Monday to Friday 10am – 8pm, Saturday 10am – 6pm and Sunday 11am to 4pm.
