Amazing Alfie’s incredible care
Alfie needed life-saving treatment immediately after birth, so he was rushed to the specialist neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Evelina London.

Alfie had suffered HIE (hypoxic-ischaemic-encephalopathy), which happens when the brain is starved of oxygen. He was having seizures and only able to breathe with the help of a ventilator.
At this horrific time, his parents didn’t know whether he would survive.
But Evelina London’s brilliant neonatal team were able to stabilise Alfie. He received 72 hours of therapeutic cooling therapy to stop his condition from getting worse.

Incredible care for Alfie and his family
Alfie is now six years old and living with cerebral palsy, which means he is reliant on a wheelchair. He loves action movies, rap music and rough and tumble play. And he is excited to listen to his favourite Christmas song by Shakin’ Stevens.
Alfie has ongoing treatment at Evelina London and recently underwent surgery to realign his hip, which is common in children with cerebral palsy.
The hospital is a real home from home for the whole family. While Alfie receives incredible care, his sister Charlotte enjoys having fun with the play specialists, and his parents feel safe and supported by the wonderful staff.
