Born at just 24 weeks, he’s been at Evelina London since the moment he came into the world. Now one year old and recovering well from a recent operation, he’s getting closer to going home. Even at such a young age, Bertie is thriving with the support of the play team, who’ve helped improve his development and physical mobility through play and interaction with his surroundings.

Evelina London’s amazing play team help children and young people, like Bertie, prepare for treatment and process their emotions through the comforting power of play.

They offer a brilliant range of activities, tailored to the needs and interests of each child. Vibrant, colourful and stimulating mobile units help babies play and explore their senses. Creative crafting sessions and quality colouring time are popular with younger children. And teenagers can use the WIFI, borrow a book or have a turn on the Xbox. They bring comfort and smiles to the whole family.

A brilliant virtual reality app that allows children to explore the Children’s Day Treatment Centre, easing anxiety before their visit.

Virtual reality headsets transport children far from the hospital ward to magical places, from swimming with dolphins to flying through space.
